During this month’s Down Syndrome Collaborative meeting, Stephanie Smith Lee (Policy & Advocacy Co-Director of the National Down Syndrome Congress) presented on disability rights and supporting new and expecting parents.
Stephanie Smith Lee discusses the progress and challenges in disability advocacy, from the the signing of the ADA in 1990, to the formation of the United Coalition for Down syndrome, to the current Trump administration. We now face deep partisan divide, drastic federal changes without stakeholder input, rapid deregulation, and threats to the Department of Education, Medicaid, and the ACA.
